Vikrant Thakur (36) and Monika Thakur (31) live in Chichoga village, Manali, Himachal Pradesh, with their two daughters, Varnika (11) and Anayaa (8). Varnika is in Grade 6, and Anayaa, who requires special education due to Down Syndrome and autism, is in Grade 3 at the special learning centre in the same school. They are studying in a private higher secondary, English medium school called Daystar School, which follows the ICSE syllabus.
The family faces significant challenges. Vikrant, a talented street artist, sells his artwork near the Hidimba Temple, earning INR 10,000-12,000 per month. However, his income is unpredictable and vulnerable to local authorities evicting his stall. As Anayaa's primary caregiver, Monika has put her career on hold to provide the constant support and attention her daughter needs.
Recently a devastating fire destroyed Vikrant's stall, along with 15 others, leaving the family in financial distress. With no insurance or support, they are struggling to recover.
The family has no permanent home, living rent-free in Vikrant's aunt's house. However, with their grandmother, who has been helping with school fees, set to retire soon, the family's financial situation will become even more precarious.
Varnika dreams of becoming a doctor, and Anayaa loves pretending to be a teacher. They have big dreams, but financial hardships are holding them back.
I have taken up this campaign to support the Thakur family. The recent fire that destroyed Vikrant's stall has left the family in a vulnerable financial state.
With Vikrant's unpredictable income and the high school fees, the family is struggling to make ends meet.
This will help alleviate some of the financial burden and ensure that Varnika and Anayaa can continue their education without interruption.
