My name is Sankalp Mohan Sharma and I am 17. I have had the opportunity to address thousands of people and sow the seeds of water conservation in their mind.

I’ve also tirelessly reached out to celebrities, government officials, influencers and anyone who can and spread awareness far and wide about the impending water crisis. This has helped me and all my supporters take giant strides towards saving the planet.

PIC : I have interacted with some of the biggest influencers in India & made a difference to water conservation.

Now, I have the golden opportunity to influence many more lives and help save precious drops of water worldwide by representing India at the UN Headquarters for The Youth Assembly. The conference will explore cross-cutting issues and solutions for sustainable development in the social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Select few talented individuals get the chance to participate at this conference. I’m now just one step away from making it to the United Nations.

However, my visit to the UN can only be made possible through your support. I need to raise INR 2 lakh to cover my travel and accommodation expenses. Your contribution will not just help me visit the UN, but also help save water in many parts of the world.

I NEED TO RAISE INR 2 LAKH TO REPRESENT INDIA AT THE UN!

YOUR FUNDS WILL ALSO AID IN WATER CONSERVATION WORLDWIDE.

ABOUT ME AND MY ACHIEVEMENTS:

I study in the Frank Anthony school in Bangalore. I first got introduced to Environment conservation through my school program Children's Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA) at the age of 13. It was a result of my work in that initiative that I got selected for the Climate reality project training In Houston, Texas during August 2016 at the young age of 15.  It is the initiative of Nobel Laureate and former US Vice President Al Gore.  I have also had the privilege of being mentored by some World famous personalities like,Sir. AL Gore, Robert Swan and Dr.Susan E Pacheco to name a few.

As a part of my work with Climate Crisis I give presentations in schools, colleges, corporate organisations and the Indian Army as well and meet influencers who can make a change or can spread the word of the climate crisis to a large number of people. I’ve also partnered with several companies and NGOs and organised a Grand Water Conservation Walk in Bangalore the Capital city of Karnataka with 1500+ walkers.

PIC: 22nd Mar 2017,World Water Day. Grand walk of 1500+ participants at Vidhan Soudha Bangalore.

PIC: Radio talk show to impact listeners on climate change and water conservation.

I was also felicitated with The ARYAN YOUNG ACHIEVERS AWARD 2017, by The ARYAN INSTITUTE OF TEACHER TRAINING. My other achievements include being appointed as the Student Ambassador Of India to the University of Idaho, through the company Sellfys and winning The Akhil Uday Award. My commitment to the cause has also been captured by Sir Al Gore in his award-winning book “An Inconvenient Truth” that talks about my contribution as the youngest Climate Reality Leader of India.

I can make a bigger difference & win many more laurels if you help me raise money to fund my trip to the UN!

HOW GRAVE IS THE WATER CRISIS IN THE WORLD?

The next Global war is most likely to be over water.

From neighbours in villages fighting for drops of water to countries in today’s world, water has now become the most precious natural resource. With examples of states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu fighting over the Cauvery water, IT IS FEARED THAT THE WORLD WILL SOON BE AT WAR OVER WATER. The United Nations General Assembly has recognized that clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realization of all human rights. The Honourable Supreme Court has time and again declared access to clean drinking water a fundamental right as part of the right to life under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.Yet, for large sections of the populace, it is very hard to find clean water, let alone get access to it.

Water scarcity affects every continent and around 2.8 billion people around the world at least one month out of every year. More than 1.2 billion people lack access to clean drinking water.Unfortunately, humans have proved to be inefficient water users. (The average hamburger takes 2,400 liters, or 630 gallons, of water to produce, and many water-intensive crops, such as cotton, are grown in arid regions.)

70% of the earth surface is covered with water, which amounts to 1400 million cubic kilometres (m km3 ). However, 97.5% of this water being sea water, it is salty. Out of the total fresh water, 68.7% is frozen in ice caps, 30% is stored underground and only 0.3% water is available on the surface of the earth. Out of the surface water, 87% is stored in lakes, 11% in swamp and 2% in rivers. As all the sweet water is not extractable, only 1% of the total water can be used by human beings (Anon. 2006).

HOW DOES WALK FOR WATER ADDRESS THIS CRISIS?

OUR MOTTO: “Water now, Water tomorrow, Safe water for all!”

YOU CAN HELP SANKALP GET CLOSER TO THIS AMBITIOUS MISSION. CONTRIBUTE AND HELP HIM RAISE INR 2 LAKH TO REPRESENT INDIA AT THE UNITED NATIONS!

In addition to the UN, I’ve also been invited by the government of South Korea to the World Education Leaders forum. If I raise INR 2 lakh, and stretch the fundraising campaign to raise INR 3 lakh, I can use the additional INR 1 lakh to fund my travel expenses to South Korea. By attending this conference, I’d be able to bring back learnings on renewable energy and applying the same in India.

FAQs

1) How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.

It is a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an Idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fuel A Dream is a crowdfunding site and platform in India that allows for such a pooling of funds.

You can fund innovations & ideas on Fuel A Dream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on our FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
