About:
My name is Joanne Lobo. I am 16 years old and a Grade 11 student at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim.
COVID-19 has impacted millions of people. The poor, migrants, and daily wage workers among others are facing numerous struggles. Mumbai has not been spared either and we are seeing its impact all around us. There has been a surge in cases & the situation will only get worse before it gets better.
We are fortunate enough to have access to good sanitation and hygiene. However there are a majority of young girls and women for whom sanitary pads are a luxury, and barely affordable in this pandemic. Food,Family,Clothing and Shelter are top priorities for surviving the pandemic. In the bargain, they manage their menstrual needs using unhygienic methods thereby exposing them to infections and health issues.
Here's where we can do our little bit ,by giving them a MENSTRUAL HYGIENE KIT that is cost-effective, lasts long, and is not too bulky.
The Hygiene kit that is being given has four reusable sanitary pads. It creates no trash and is inexpensive . Disposable sanitary pads which have to be bought repeatedly, cost INR 50-100 per month, and create massive disposal problems. The cost of each hygiene kit (including distributing it) is just INR 250.
I humbly request you to support my campaign so that we can also contribute to their well-being in our own small little way.It will make a big difference to these women.
