My name is Vrinda. I am 15 years old and in Grade 9 at the Shriram Millennium School, Noida.
I value education, freedom and creativity. I believe these are traits that every child should have, they should receive a regular and good education, they should have the freedom to express themselves and strive to achieve whatever dream they have, and they should have the creativity to think big and accomplish their goals.
Unfortunately, most children in India do not have the luxury of having these traits, in fact, they do not even have the luxury of getting regular meals. Approximately 4500 children under the age of five years die every day in India due to hunger and malnutrition.
How can India progress in the field of education when its youth are compelled to drop out of school because they don’t get enough to eat which results in fatigue and illness? How can someone maintain a regular schooling on an empty stomach? The “Akshaya Patra’s midday meal program” motivates students to go to school by providing them with a nutritious, hot meal everyday ensuring that the children of tomorrow remain healthy and continue their education.
