About:
My name is Amaaya, I am 14 years old and a Grade 9 student at Kanakia International. Throughout the course of my education, I have been taught to be open-minded, and caring, and have been encouraged to go above and beyond in order to be well-read and educate myself about globally concerning matters- especially when in regards to something as basic as a proper education.
In light of the foregoing, I decided to take up the initiative of running this crowdfunding campaign in an elaborate effort to transform a Municipal school situated in the Dharavi Slum at Sion, Mumbai, into a safe, hygienic, and convivial center for learning.
When we were shown images of the school’s current state, I was taken aback by how neglected and unsafe the school looked and I could not imagine how difficult it must be to receive a proper and informed education there. Essential things such as hygienic washrooms, clean classrooms, and a reliable infrastructure were heavily lacking in a school where parents from unfortunate circumstances save money for months and put their complete faith and trust into.
Through this Campaign, my friends and I strive to change this school in a way that the close to 300 students attending this school have the opportunity to learn in a cleaner, more secure, well-equipped and grounded, fully functional, and adept school. By implementing these minor yet necessary changes we hope to aid in assisting pupils in reaching their full potential and making sure they maximize and seize any and every opportunity that comes their way.
I hope you believe and support this significant cause, and will help change the lives of the future generation because, after all, it starts with us.
