About:
My name is Shanvi Gupta, a 14-year-old student in Grade 9 at EuroSchool, Undri, Pune.
I am leading a campaign to transform the lives of women in rural Maharashtra, who face the relentless burden of walking long distances every day to fetch water. This task is physically exhausting and time-consuming, causing severe back and neck pain. Despite spending hours collecting water, these women are also responsible for managing all the household chores, leaving them with little to no time for rest, personal growth, or income-generating activities.
I was thrilled and inspired when I discovered the Water Wheel – a simple yet revolutionary innovation designed to ease their struggles. This sustainable water transport system can carry up to 45 liters of water, providing a household with enough supply for over a day. Its ergonomic design ensures ease of use, with detachable handles that allow it to double as a storage container. Built to last for years, the Water Wheel not only reduces the physical strain but also sparks a behavioral shift – even men have started using it to fetch water.
This campaign aims to bring joy, relief, and empowerment to women in tribal areas of Maharashtra. In partnership with the Rotary Club of Hanging Gardens and their local collaborators, we plan to distribute these Water Wheels. At just INR 3,000 per unit (covering identification, procurement, and distribution), this is an impactful and cost-effective solution to a critical problem.
Your support can help improve the quality of life for these women, giving them the freedom and energy to focus on more productive pursuits.
Together, we can transform their lives and build a brighter future. Let’s make this vision a reality!
