About:
Hello dear reader! I am Jovin Christopher, 17 years old, studying in Grade 12 at Bombay Scottish School, and I am here to make you realise how privileged you are!
COVID-19 has impacted millions of people and still continues to affect people in numerous ways. The worst-hit are the poor, migrants, and daily wage workers. The city of Mumbai has not been spared and we are seeing its impact across the city. There has been a continuous surge in cases & the situation will only get worse before it gets better. For girls and women from rural and financially weak backgrounds, the issue is compounded by the inaccessibility of menstrual hygiene measures.
Women in cities often take sanitary pads for granted. For the poor, it has become a luxury. Their focus has shifted to getting food and surviving through the pandemic, and sadly, that means menstrual needs are not important. To manage their menstrual needs they have resorted to using unhygienic methods which will lead to a health crisis.
This the part where you -dear reader- come in.
Our solution is to give them a menstrual hygiene kit that is cost-effective, lasts long, and is not too bulky.
The Hygiene kit that is being given has four reusable sanitary pads. It creates no trash and is cost-effective. Disposable sanitary pads have to be bought repeatedly, cost INR 50-100 per month, and create massive disposal problems after use. The cost of this hygiene kit (including distributing it) is just INR 250. As these pads can be used for upto 2 years, simple calculations show that the cost comes down by almost 90 %!!
I really hope that during these trying times, we privileged people can help those in need in any way we can. This is the least we can do for them. I'm positively sure that bringing a smile on their faces would warm our hearts. Let's come together and do our bit.
